Curriculum Statement

NEST is committed to enabling all its pupils to enjoy school and become independent learners. The curriculum for each NEST school is individually designed to meet the needs and context of the schools and reflect the vision and aspiration of the Trust. Each school’s curriculum is broad, balanced and deep in line with statutory requirements, but also provides a wide range of enrichment opportunities to ensure that learning is exciting and interesting for our children.

There an expectation that the design and delivery of the curriculum will be underpinned by evidence-based research. The curriculum will build on experiences and prior learning, to enable all to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. Each school’s curriculum will be relevant and prepare pupils for the here and now, the next phase of their education, and their future.

The principles of our schools’ curriculum:

  • Involve everyone in a culture of learning;
  • Develop knowledge, skills and understanding in a broad and balanced curriculum through practical, challenging and engaging activities;
  • Ensure there is an expectation of high academic achievement as well as emotional and social well-being.
  • Develop communication, collaboration and digital skills and encourage creativity, problem solving and resilience;
  • Foster exploration, experimentation and discovery through learning within and beyond the classroom;
  • Extend each child’s horizon beyond their immediate local culture to learn more about themselves and others in the world of which they are a part;
  • Work to engage families and carers as partners in their child’s learning and
  • Enable everyone to understand the process of learning and that learning is a social and continuous process requiring interaction between learners of all ages.

The curriculum in each school will promote the British Values of tolerance of other faiths, democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect. All children will have equal rights of access to the curriculum, with children of all social, cultural and religious backgrounds being equally respected. Our children with special educational needs and disabilities will be provided with a rich and relevant curriculum which matches that of their peers.

Please visit each school's website for details of their individual curriculum.
